Mirror Placement According to Vastu Shastra — Dos and Donts
Mirrors and Vastu — Why It Matters
In Indian homes, Vastu Shastra is taken seriously — and mirrors play a significant role in it. A mirror placed incorrectly, according to Vastu, can reflect negative energy, disturb sleep, or create tension in relationships. A well-placed mirror, on the other hand, can enhance prosperity and positive energy.
As Bhayandar's trusted glass studio, we get asked about Vastu mirror placement almost every day. Here is a simple guide based on what our customers and Vastu consultants recommend.
Best Directions to Place a Mirror
North Wall — Best for Wealth
Placing a mirror on the north wall is considered highly auspicious. The north is associated with Kubera (god of wealth). A mirror here is said to attract financial prosperity. This is a popular choice for living rooms and offices.
East Wall — Positive Energy
The east direction brings sunlight and positive energy in the morning. A mirror on the east wall reflects this energy throughout the home. Great for hallways and entrance areas.
Directions to Avoid
South Wall — Avoid
Placing a mirror on the south wall is considered inauspicious in Vastu. It is said to reflect positive energy out of the home. Avoid placing large mirrors or decorative mirrors on south-facing walls.
Facing the Bed — Avoid
This is the most common Vastu concern we hear. A mirror directly facing the bed is said to cause disturbed sleep, bad dreams, and relationship issues. If your bedroom already has a wardrobe mirror facing the bed, consider a sliding shutter or curtain to cover it at night.
Entrance Door — Avoid
A mirror placed directly opposite the main entrance is said to reflect incoming positive energy right back out. Place mirrors to the side of the entrance, not facing it.
Shape of Mirror
- Rectangular mirrors — best for most rooms, stable energy
- Round mirrors — good for living rooms, represent completeness
- Oval mirrors — gentle, good for bedrooms
- Irregular or broken mirrors — avoid, as they are said to distort energy
Practical Tips
Many of our customers combine Vastu principles with practical needs. A common solution we suggest: if you need a full-length mirror in the bedroom for dressing, place it on the side wall (east or north), not facing the bed. This satisfies both Vastu and practical requirements.
